Electric immersion heater are heater bundle that are installed in tanks or vessel. Generally the is little to no flow across the heater bundle. The heater transfer are predominantly thru conduction and convection. Since it has a lower heat transfer coefficient, care should be taken to select a appropriate heat flux. The correct heat flux will keep the operating temperature of the bundle and process in a acceptable range. We typically see heat flux from 10 watts per square inch (WSI) to 30 WSI in these applications.

Some common applications include caustic tank and bath heaters. The immersion heater is installed to raise the temperature of the liquid in these tank or bath. In petrol chemical complex, a knock out drum max exist before the flare tower. These drum are design to capture liquid so they are not send to flare. One method to drain the knock out drum is to vaporize the liquid with an electric immersion heater. In similar application, an electric immersion heater can be installed in a vaporizer system. If the vaporizer heater is in immersion service, select a lower heat flux. If it is with flow, we can increase the heat flux of the heater. Electric immersion heater in kettle style reboiler typically operates in an immersion service with very little flow across the heater.

This is also similar to a water bath heater. The heater sits on the bottom of the water bath heater with little or no flow. However, most water bath heater uses water as the media. Water has very good heat transfer. Although it is in am immersion service, the water increases overall heat transfer due to is excellent heat transfer properties.

On the far extreme, we will have an immersion heater molten salt applications. The application typically involves melting the salt and raising the salt temperature once it is in the liquid state. A very low heat flux needs to be selected to ensure a long heater life.

Electric process heater are typically an electric immersion heater installed in a vessel. Process is then flowed thru the electric heater assembly. The heater would then heat up the process in a single or multi pass. Since we have process flow across the heater as oppose to an immersion service, the selected heat flux of these heaters are typically higher. Depending on application, the e typically see heat flux from 10 watts per square inch (WSI) to 30 WSI in these applications.

Electric line heaters are found in oil & gas heating. Electric Natural Gas pre heaters are used in pressure reduction stations.

Shell & Tube exchangers are very similar in construction to an electric heater. In fact some shell & tube exchangers looks very similar to an electric heater. Their similarity quickly diminish from here on. Shell & Tube exchangers have hollow tubes with process flowing on the inside and outside of the tubes. On an electric heater, the tubes are filled. (Refer to our Technical section for more details.) An electric heater is an active device. All the power must be absorbed by the process or it will overheat. On the other hand, a Shell & Tube exchangers depend on thermal gradient of the tubes for heat transfer. We commonly see a misapplication of Tema Standards for an electric heater.

We manufacture custom high spec shell and tube exchangers. Feel free to contact us for your application.

We offer filter coalescer vessel for the liquid and solid filtration of various gases. One common use is to fully remove free liquid from a gas stream. This is done before the gas is super heated by an electric process heater.

Our liquid filtration technology is commonly used by the Power Generation industry. It aids in coalescing liquid from diesel. It also assists in the removal of liquid from fuel oil.

Our electrically heated 3 phase separator, knock out drum are commonly found in Oil & Gas processing facilities

We design and manufacture ASME VIII U stamp vessel. Alternate code and option includes Canadian Registration (CRN), Pressure Element Directive (PED). We design, engineering and manufacture Pressure Vessel in shop located in the heart of Houston, Texas, USA.
